With a humble thought “we don’t believe we have the answers, but we do believe the answers are out there.” Google launches its Project-10-to-the-100 (Project 10100) inviting ideas for solving problems and helping the world.

Google has setup a fund of $10 million which it plans to give away for the best idea or ideas. For example, if only one idea is selected then $10 million will be awarded to execute it or if 5 ideas are winners then they get $2 million each.

Ideas can be about anything under the sun and you can submit as many ideas as you want. Google has used 5 terms to define the criteria for the best idea.

Reach: How many people would this idea affect?
Depth: How deeply are people impacted? How urgent is the need?
Attainability: Can this idea be implemented within a year or two?
Efficiency: How simple and cost-effective is your idea?
Longevity: How long will the idea’s impact last?

Google also tried to make it simpler for people to understand what they are looking for so that they get a high quality of ideas. Google sited an example of HippoRoller which is a simple idea but has a huge impact and is even related to technology remotely.

"These ideas can be big or small, technology-driven or brilliantly simple — but they need to have impact," Google said in a news release. "We know there are countless brilliant ideas that need funding and support to come to fruition." [Link]

Buying Android G1 in India could be possible soon. According to BS report, Ajay Sharma, country manager, HTC (India), said that the company will be looking to tie-up with a phone company to launch the HTC G1 in India in the month of December.

This is a good move by HTC as people who have been waiting for iPhone to hit India since a long time are still waiting for the prices to reduce before they buy their dream phone. In the meanwhile if HTC plans to launch the Android loaded G1 in India soon then it can pull a lot of potential buyers away from buying Apple’s iPhone.

iPhone was launched in India on 21th of August, however, it failed to sell in the expected volumes because of its price tag, Rs.31,000 for 8GB and Rs. 32,000 for 16GB. This is where HTC’s Android powered G1 could win over iPhone in India.

G1 does not come with a huge space such as 8 or 16 GB. It however offers a decent 1GB which can be enhanced using memory cards. Such specs on Android G1 are being considered as lack of features, but, we think it’s a smartly designed phone which can compete with iPhone in the markets where it is considered expensive.

Another thing that might favor HTC is that 3G network in India is not launched yet. So people who bought the iPhone 3G have not yet experienced the mobility on the iPhone 3G. December would be an ideal time for HTC to launch Android in India as the 3G services are expected to be launched around the same time.

Google released an updated version of Chrome yesterday. This version of Chrome comes with quite a few bug and security fixes.

The release does not offer any new features including the support of Add-on’s. The upgrade is highly recommended as it offers security fix.
Google Chrome will automatically update itself as it is programmed to check for updates every 5 hours and download and install the latest releases as often as possible.

Without a manual check, Chrome will update itself automatically, Google said. "Google Chrome will automatically checks for updates approximately every five hours. If an update is available, it will be downloaded and applied at the next browser restart, Google said.

Google has decided that it know whats best for its users than the users themselves. The version of Chrome sitting on your machine will update automatically whenever there is a new release, bug or a security fix. According to Google, updates don’t have to depend on what users decide.

"Users do not get a notification when they are updated … When there are security fixes, it’s crucial that we update our users as quickly as possible in order to keep them safe. Thus, it’s important for us to not require user intervention," the company said in a statement
Users like you an I who cannot wait for the browser to be updated by itself can update it by going to Settings -> About Google Chrome.

One of the duos behind the mammoth search engine, Sergey Brin, launched his own blog at http://too.blogspot.com.

“Welcome to my personal blog. While Google is a play on googol, too is a play on the much smaller number - two. It also means "in addition", as this blog reflects my life outside of work.”

That’s what the first post reads and he decides to write about everything other than work. I am sure there are millions of us who are deeply inspired with Sergey’s vision and success would also be interested in knowing a little bit about his personal life too.

Sergey talks about his mother and Parkinson’s disease and how he has decades to prepare for his old age. I am certainly looking forward to read and know more of Sergey on his blog.

With the Internet penetration increasing in India with leaps and bounds, there are more number of people getting online. Social Networking sites are a craze in India. With orkut and facebook having great number of subscribers from India and some local social networking sites like BigAdda, anything that has a good number of Indian subscribers becomes a hit.

We wont get into the details of why the youth in India is attracted to social networking sites. We are going to take a look at yet another new social networking site launched exclusively for Indians. Yahoo announced that it has launched a new social networking site for Indian youth between 16-24 years bracket (I am not sure if I can become a member because I am over 24 :)).

The site is called as SpotM. Yahoo hasn’t given much details on the features of the site and I tried to get myself an invite (Still waiting). Also, if I were to use my logic the letter M in SpotM could mean mobile. Which means that the site will have compatibility for mobiles and features that’d unleash the power of mobile usage among the youth

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were

Told to eat our vegetables at dinner and not leave them.

Mothers said, think of the starving children in India

And finish the dinner.'

And now I tell my children:

'Finish your homework. Think of the children in India

Who would make you starve, if you don't.'?"

Just came across this site where you can make free text to voice calls to USA... It is almost like Free Internet Phone Calls but the thing is your message will be conveyed by automated voice... :) Have a try!

There is also one more service but it is temporarily down

"Believe it or not! I got one of my old issue with ICICI bank resolved in week's time. Kudos to CORE!
Below is the mail thread regarding this. For those who have little time here is the gist.  On 21 june 2008 I withdrew 1500 from Canara Bank ATM uising my ICICI debit card. I did not get the cash. I called ICICI customer care immediately and filed complaint. The executive told em that in 45 days it will get resolved. I waited. After the time I was told that there no transaction dispute. Accidentally my friend and rooms Vasanthakumar told about CORE. I registered my complaint immediately and the next day onwards, ICICI called nme to resolve the issue and within a week after two to three calls with me ICICI has credited back the 1500 ruppees for which I have been working for almost a month between ICICI branch and customer care."

Please spread word about CORE. This is an agency directly under the Honourable Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

How the world of web and blogsphere would have looked without images? Really it’s very difficult to imagine a world with out pictures and images. The saying “pictures speak louder than words” holds absolutely perfect for bloggers. But for images in their articles, bloggers would be handicap. It’s imperative for me to include images in the posts I write and I cannot think of doing a post without images. What are the advantages (and trust me there are only advantages)? your blog looks much more beautiful when you have images in it.you can control the flow of what you are trying to say beautifully well with images. You can have posts only with images and they add a different flavor to the post. For tutorial sites it’s imperative to use images else the purpose of the post is defeated. I have emphasized enough on why websites and especially bloggers have to use images in their daily workflow.

Let’s take a look at a service that’ll make your search for images an easier one. The service is called as Gazopa and is an image search engine. No doubt there are wonderful services like Flickr and DeviantArt, but Gazopa has a different flavor to the way it caters to your need of image search.
Gazopa is similar to TinEye and help you search images using image. TinEye searches for exactly same images whereas Gazopa’s searches for all the similar and related images which need not have to same. Let’s look at the features it promises to offer:
GazoPa is a similar image search service on the web in private beta by Hitachi.
Users can search images from the web based on user’s own photo, drawings, images found on the web and keywords.
Users can search images from the web based on user’s own photo, drawings, images found on the web and keywords.
Since GazoPa uses image features to search other similar images, a vast range of images can be retrieved from the web.
Now that sound exciting. Let’s take a look at the snapshot of the service

This article talks about Duplicate file remover or duplicate file finders to find and delete duplicate files form the computer and make some space.
Every time I see the balloon on the taskbar which notifies me of my diskspace running out, I frantically run some tools to delete unwanted files and painfully delete some of the movies from my disk.

Until 10 minutes ago, I never thought of scanning for duplicate files and deleting them instead. Once that thought came to my mind I downloaded couple of softwares which do the job.

One of the free duplicate file finders I found better than others is called Easy Duplicate Finder. It’s easy to use and most importantly does not mess with your system files and other system critical files.
All you have to do is install the software and run a scan. Once the scan is complete it shows the duplicates in groups which makes it easier to select and delete the duplicate files.
Here is a quick rundown on the features this software offers.
Select a Drive or Folder to scan for duplicates.
Specify a file extension to scan for duplicate files.
Mention a minimum file size in Bytes, KB’s or MB’s. For example if you choose 100KB then all the files less than 100KB in size will be excluded from the scan, by default it excludes 0 sized files.
Skip system folders
Skip system files which extensions, .sys, .ocx, .drv, .dll
It shows the number of scanned files, total disk space occupied by these files, etc..
There you go. Click here to download Easy Duplicate Finder.
I hope I was not the only one who just realized that duplicate files can also eat up a lot of disk space, leave a comment and let us know what you think of the software and if it was helpful.

Maverick Mobile, An Indian (Pune based) company launched a new software at a technology conference in San Diego, Calif., recently. This application helps you recover your mobile phone or at least all the information on it if the phone is stolen.

This software is capable of sending you encrypted information about the phones location, you can also retrieve your phone contacts and disable to the phone remotely. Once the application is installed, it starts working in invisible mode and can be used only using predefined keys+password. After the installation the user needs to add a secondary number which receives all the reports in case the device is stolen.
This application reminds me of the movie “Home Alone 3” in which the miscreants are similarly tortured and harassed. Well this application certainly does not go to the extent of punching them in the face but does pretty odd things.

The moment it detects an unauthorized SIM change it locks/encrypts all the data on the phone which includes SMS, Photos, PhoneBook, etc.. It not only sends information such as new phone number, device id, country code, operator name and location to the secondary number but it also starts sending information about the incoming/outgoing calls, SMS’s received/sent along with the text or any new contacts added to the phone.
That’s not all; I’ve saved the best for last. These two features are my favorite. The phone offers something called “SPY Call”. In case the phone is stolen the owner of the phone can call using the secondary number which will be termed as a SPY Call, in case of spy call the loudspeaker and the MIC will be automatically activated, the incoming call will be received without any notification so that the owner can listen to the conversations happening around the phone. Even if the thief comes to know that the SPY Call is activated, he/she will not be able to terminate the call. Wicked Cool, Right?
Another thing it does is Raises and Alarm and Disables the phone. Just send a preformatted SMS from the reporting/secondary number and it will automatically start making loud sounds and will also flash a customized message with the Owners Name, Address, Alternate Number and Award price.
It is also known that the company has tied up with Nokia to offer this application pre-installed on selectd Nokia phones.
The site has a “Buy” option but is currently inactive. Their offical website is http://www.maverickmobile.in/
The application certinly offers greta security and data backup featues, its just a matter of time before we start using it on our phones.

A man dies and goes to hell. There he finds that there is a different hell for each country.

He goes to the German hell and asks, "What do they do here?"

He was told, "First they put you in an electric chair for an hour. Then they lay you on a bed of nails for another hour. Then the German devil comes in and beats you for the rest of the day."

The man does not like the sound of that at all, so he moves on and checks out the USA hell as well as the Russian hell and many more countries... He discovers that they are all more or less the same as the German hell...

Then he comes to the Indian hell and finds that there is a long line of people waiting to get in. Amazed, he asks, What do they do here?"

He was told, "First they put you in an electric chair for an hour..Then they lay you on a bed of nails for another hour. Then the Indian devil comes and beats you for the rest of the day."

"But that is exactly the same as all the other hells---so why are so many people waiting to get in here?" asked the man.

Because maintenance is so bad that the electric chair does not work, someone has stolen all the nails from the bed and the Indian devil is a former Govt. servant, so he comes in and signs the register and then goes to the canteen!

Billionaire College Dropouts

Are college dropouts more successful than people with good education? It would seem so if you consider that many billionaires are people who dumped college. However, what this hides is the fact that although millions quit studies before completing them, very few of them go on to become rich.
What the list of the super-rich dropouts signifies is that in business, a top degree is not as important as having the right aptitude, attitude, determination and vision.
Here are some dropouts who went on to become billionaires:

Bill Gates

William Henry Gates III (1955-), along with Paul Allen, co-founded Microsoft Corporation, the world's largest software maker. Bill Gates, the wealthiest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $480 crores (Rs 211,200 crore!), is probably the best-known college dropout.
Gates attended an exclusive prep school in Seattle, went on to study at Harvard University, then dropped out to pursue software development. As students in the mid-70s, he and Paul Allen wrote the original Altair BASIC interpreter for the Altair 8800, the first commercially successful PC.
In 1975, Micro-Soft - later Microsoft Corporation - was born. Three decades on, Gates has been Number One on the Forbes 400 for over a dozen years. And here's something you probably didn't know: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation currently provides 90 per cent of the world budget for the attempted eradication of polio.

Larry Ellison

Lawrence Joseph Ellison (1944-), co-founder and CEO of Oracle Corporation, founded his company in 1977 with a sum of $2,000. Once a school dropout, he is now, according to Forbes, one of the richest people in America with a net worth of around $184 crores. The figure also makes him the ninth richest in the world.
As a young man, Ellison worked for the Ampex Corporation, where one of his projects was a database for the CIA. He called it Oracle, a name he was to reuse years later for the company that made him famous.
Interestingly, the organisation' s initial release was Oracle 2. The number supposedly implied that all bugs had been eliminated from an earlier version.
Ellison is quite a colourful man, and has long dabbled in all kinds of things. Want to learn more? Try his biography, The Difference Between God and Larry Ellison.

Dhirubhai Ambani

Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani (1932-2002) was born into the family of a schoolteacher. It was a family of modest means. When he turned 16, Dhirubhai moved to Aden, working first as a gas-station attendant, then as a clerk in an oil company.
He returned to India at 26, starting a business with a meagre capital of $375. By the time of his demise, his company - Reliance Industries Ltd - had grown to become an empire, with an estimated annual turnover of $120 crores!
Dhirubhai was, in his lifetime, conferred the Indian Entrepreneur of the 20th Century Award by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. A Times of India poll in the year 2000 also voted him one of the biggest creators of wealth in this century.
Dhirubhai's is not just the usual
rags-to-riches story. He will be remembered as the one who rewrote Indian corporate history and built a truly global corporate group. He is also credited with having single-handedly breathed life into the Indian stock markets and bringing in thousands of investors to the bourses.

Steve Jobs

<

Steven Paul Jobs (1955-) and Apple Computer are names that have long gone together.
Born in the United States to an unknown Egyptian-Arab father, Jobs was adopted soon after birth. After graduating high school, he enrolled in Reed College, dropping out after one semester.
In 1976, 21-year-old Jobs and 26-year old Steve Wozniak founded Apple Computer Co. in the family garage. Jobs revolutionised the industry by popularising the concept of home computers.
By 1984, the Macintosh was introduced. He had an influential role in the building of the World-Wide Web, and also happens to be Chairman and CEO of Pixar Animation Studios.
Today, with the iPod, Apple is bigger than ever. Incidentally, Jobs worked for several years at an annual salary of $1. It got him a listing in the Guinness Book as `Lowest Paid Chief Executive Officer.' He was once gifted a $9 crores jet by the company though. And his net worth? Moer than $3 billion.

Michael Dell

Michael Saul Dell (1965- ) joined the University of Texas at Austin with the intention of becoming a physician. While studying there, he started a computer company in his dormitory, calling it PC's Limited. By the time he turned 19, it had notched up enough success to prompt Dell to dropout.
In 1987, PC's Limited changed its name to Dell Computer Corporation. By 2003, Dell, Inc. was the world's most profitable PC manufacturer.
Dell has won more than his fair share of accolades, including Man of the Year from PC Magazine and EM>CEO of the Year from Financial World . Forbes, in 2005, lists him as the 18th richest in the world with a net worth of around $1600 Crores. Not bad for just another dropout.

Subhash Chandra Goel

Here's something not many people know about Subhash Chandra Goel : The Zee chairman dropped out after standard 12.
Subhash Chandra started his own vegetable oils unit at 19. It was, in a manner of speaking, his first job. Years later, a casual visit to a friend at Doordarshan gave him the idea of starting his own broadcasting company. We all know how that story ran.
Chandra knew nothing about programming, distribution or film rights. What he did understand quite well was the Indian sensibility though. Funded by UK businessmen, Zee came into being as India's first satellite TV network.
Today, it reaches 320 lakhs homes, connecting with 20 crores people in South Asia alone.

Recommended by Eye specialist: 20-20-20

It is apt for all of us, who spend long hours at our desks, looking at the computer screen.

Step I :- After every 20 minutes of looking into the computer screen, turn your head and try to look at any object placed at least 20 feet away. This changes the focal length of your eyes, a must-do for the tired eyes.

Step II :- Try and blink your eyes for 20 times in succession, to moisten them.

Step III :- Time permitting of course, one should walk 20 paces after every 20 minutes of sitting in one particular posture. Helps blood circulation for the entire body. Circulate among your friends if you care for them and their eyes. They say that your eyes r mirror of your soul, so do take care of them, they are priceless......

Otherwise our eye would be like this.....
